Fun Neighborhood Concerts

In this tough times, the annual Festival of International Arts & Ideas is offering neighborhood residents a chance to purchasec 15-20 minute on-site performances. Friday, May 29 was the Caribbean Vibe Steel Drum Band. They played for a very enthusiastic audinece of neighbors – all with masks – at The Priory on Greene Street.
The 47th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival – planned for April 19 – is cancelled until 2021

Columbus Wreath-Laying Ceremony

Columbus Wreath-Laying Ceremony on Oct. 12, sponsored by the Greater New Haven Columbus Day Committee, began at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, then processed (see photo, above, with procession led by U. S. Representative Rosa DeLauro and Mayor Toni Harp) to the Columbus Statue in the park, abutting Chapel St. More than 40 organizations placed their wreaths around the statue.

Pumpkin Decorating
Pumpkin Decorating on October 30, organized by long-time HWSA board member Keith Lorch, was a hit despite rainy weather. A good number of families came with their kids, had a lots of fun, and took home their decorated pumpkins.

Site Projects had a party to celebrate 15 successful years
held appropriately on Sept. 15! The well-attended event at Canal Dock Boathouse was free and open to all. The lively evening included videos documenting the development of the projects, live music, dance performances and hands-on art, puzzles and challenges.
